  2. Love Stories • Read the love stories. • Love at any age can feel very real and is a strong emotion that is not easily lost. • Even though our lives go on in many other directions, there is always a sentimental feeling for the first love in our life.

  3. Infatuation or Love? • How can you tell? • First, find descriptive words hidden somewhere in the classroom. • Then, decide if it best describes infatuation or love. • Place your answers on the board. • Let’s review the answers.

  4. Love Characteristics • Giving • Slowly built • Lasts a long time • Shows concern for other person • Honest • Based on many issues • Deep and caring • Secure, trusting

  5. Infatuation Characteristics • Taking • Immediate, quick • Burns out quickly • Selfish, looking after own interests • May be dishonest • Based on physical attraction • Surface relationship • Insecure, jealousy, mistrust

  6. Role Playing • I need some volunteers. • Read the situations and pretend you have the feelings described and role play it for the rest of the class. • The class needs to then identify if it is an example of love or infatuation.

  7. Building Blocks of Love • Being attracted to him/her and desiring to share their company. • Being excited to see the person and to be with them. • Feeling at ease with him/her. • Being friends first. • Sharing happy experiences with date/companion.

  8. Building Blocks of Love • Respecting their values, personal integrity, and honesty. • Understanding and respecting their feelings. • Recognizing and appreciating all the kind things they do for you.

  9. Building Blocks of Love • Recognizing each other’s accomplishments and taking pride in them without feeling threatened. • Being concerned for their happiness. • Desiring to keep them from harm or harmful situations. • Showing admiration for special talents and personality traits.

  11. Am I in Love? • Take the survey to see if you are truly in love or not. • Add up your score: • 50-60 = On your way to true love • 39-49 = Your relationship needs improving • 38 and below = Infatuation!

Three Components of Relationships • Intimacy – Being close to someone and sharing personal things (feelings, ideas, hopes, desires, etc.) • Passion – Strong emotional feelings that move you to express things verbally and physically • Commitment – Pledging yourself to another person; promising to be true and faithful.
