In 2011, professor Alan Gribben from Auburn University in Montgomery, Alabama produced a version of Huck Finn that replaced the 219 occurrences of the “n-word” with the word “slave.” After watching the 60 Minutes clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nW9-qee1m9o) addressing this publication, respond to the following: • What from the 60 Minutes clip or New York Times articles did you agree and/or disagree with, or find particularly interesting or insightful? • Should Twain’s original language be preserved in Huck Finn? How should this language be handled in the context of a classroom?
