  3. Ways to Improve Emotional Resilience: • Meet someone from a different culture; • Try new activities (culturally-related); • Develop language skills; • Foreign travel; and • Develop a sense of humor in an unfamiliar situation.

  4. Flexibility/Openness (FO): • Lacks rigidity • Nonjudgmental • Likes people • Enjoys diversity

  5. Ways to Improve Flexibility/Openness: • Interact with different people; • Enjoy being alone from time to time; • Practice doing tasks at a slower pace; and • Visit a cultural setting different than your own.

  6. Perceptual Acuity (PAC): • Attentive to verbal/non-verbal cues • Aware of communication dynamics • Empathy

  7. Ways to Improve Perceptual Acuity: • Learn how other cultures communicate and how they perceive your culture; • Practice “active listening”; • Ask for information from others regarding how they perceive you; and • Observe body language.

  8. Personal Autonomy (PA): • Clear personal value system • Strong sense of identity • Self-directed • Self-respecting

  9. Ways to Improve Personal Autonomy: • Clarify your personal values; and • Re-evaluate negative stereotypes.
