Early 2005: Proprietary chipsets Jan 2005 CES: Prototype UWB-enabled CE devices, kits/adapters 1H05: Chipset integration into CE devices – testing stage & manufacturers ramp up Xmas 2005/2006: Line-powered devices (NOT battery-powered or mobile) like DTVs, PVRs, PCs Xmas 2006/2007: Battery-powered devices like digital camcorders and digital still cameras Mobile Phones? WW standard needed High-Speed UWB Market Rollout Goal to replace connectors, primarily USB and 1394 cables, between variety of CE and PC devices UWB transmissions not allowed worldwide yet- In process

Initially, mostly two-chip chipsets, but some targeting early single chip versions Radios in SiGe & BiCMOS Some single-chip PHY: RF Transceiver, TX/RX Switch & BB Many solutions will migrate to a single chip 2006-2007 Dedicated processor best for now – Host processing not expected to happen soon UWB Silicon Trends

WUSB, W1394, UWB & 802.11n to Live Together • Will co-exist like wired Ethernet (LAN) & USB (PAN) • 802.11n provides a 100-meter circle of 100Mbps that is shared • Wireless USB with UWB PHY provides high density of high- bandwidth video streaming connections within each PAN “bubble” • Wireless USB & Wireless 1394 development coming along (UWB PHY) • WUSB & UWB-enabled products to enter market in 2005 & 2006 • 802.11n: Final spec about 2 yrs away (4Q2006) • About 60 proposals received, but 2 primary camps so far

  9. Overlap/Competition 802.11n vs. UWB & Wireless USB • Although complementary, there will be some overlap, where either or both solutions may be embedded WirelessUSB 802.11n High-end TVs, PVRs & PCs
