  2. Back to Church Sunday 27th September 2009 Back to Church Sunday is designed to encourage people to invite their friends and neighbours back to church on one specific day.

  3. The Back to Church Sunday Story • Started in 2004 in Greater Manchester. • 160 Churches took part • On that day over 1000 people came back to church.

  4. The Back to Church Sunday Story • This year the initiative is UK wide. • Up to 500,000 people are expected to come back to church. • We have chosen to take part.

  5. The Back to Church Sunday Story • The theme this year is ‘Come as you are’. • It’s all about a warm welcome. • So who do we invite. • People who used to come to church. • Friends • Family • Colleagues • Even the Avon lady • Who isn’t it aimed at • People who attend other churches

  6. The Back to Church Sunday Story • What has happened so far. • A small team has been gathering to discuss what we can do to make this years event a success. • Practical issues • Invitations • The church building • Welfare of our visitors • Catering • Welcoming • Information (welcome packs, mission, youth groups, crèche etc) • Follow up • Children • Quiz (12th September) • Lots of questions we now need answers

  7. The Back to Church Sunday Story • What else. • Everyone will be involved in the day. • We would gladly welcome people to join the organising group. • Any ideas of how to make it a success, let us know • Next meeting is planned for 15th July • Plenty to do • Pray for the success of the day • Think about who you may want to invite • Pray for them • Spread the word, keep it in everyone's mind. • Use every opportunity. “Love your neighbor as yourself” Luke 10:27

  8. How do I invite someone? • There are only five things to remember to say • Our church is holding a special service for people who don’t usually come to church. • There will be lots of new people there and it’s going to be good. • I’m going. • Would you like to come with me? • ‘Don’t make up your mind straight away – I’ll see what you think in a couple of days’

  9. “Back to Church Sunday is about inviting somebody you know to meet somebody you love”. Michael Harvey – Back to church Sunday team
