  1. What is Title 1? • Title I is a federally funded program which allows students, who are experiencing academic difficulty, to receive extra help and individual attention during the school day with no extra cost to the parents.

  2. How Title 1 works • The federal government provides funding to school districts each year. • School districts identify schools that are eligible to receive funds.

  3. The Title 1 school works to: • identify students most in need of educational help • set goals for improvement • measure student progress • develop programs that add to regular classroom instruction. • involve parents in all aspects of the programs

  4. School-Wide programs • Schools can qualify for school-wide Title I programs where the funds and resources can benefit all students attending that school.. Houchin Elementary has a Title 1 school-wide program.

  5. Our School’s Title 1 Funds • Our Title 1 funds for 2010-2011 pay for a staff of 3, professional development, instructional supplies and supplemental instructional material. • Our school has a Title 1 School-wide program that focuses on improving student achievement.

  6. Title I Reading Teacher • Reading Specialist • Identify individual student’s needs • Provides small group instruction • Evaluate with on-going assessments • Cooperate and communicate with other professional staff members • Encourage parent involvement through newsletters and parent meetings • Responsible for Title 1 budget and inventories

  7. Title 1 Teaching Assistants • Computer Lab – provides supervision in the computer lab so that classroom teachers can pull students for individual or small group interventions • Title 1 Reading Class – assists the Title 1 teacher in providing supervision and assistance during the Title 1 small group interventions.

  8. Literacy Coach • Help teachers by modeling good lesson planning and teaching. • Helps teachers with organizing and planning reading instruction for groups of children.

  9. As a parent, you’re part of the Title 1 team! • The parent-school compactstates the goals and responsibilities of both parents and schools. • The parent involvement policyhelps parents understand and take part in the school’s efforts.

  10. Our school needs you! • Learn about your Title 1 program. • Attend school events. • Visit the classrooms. • Volunteer to help. • Join parents’ organizations. • Attend parent-teacher conferences • Keep teachers informed of events that might affect your child’s work or behavior
