  3. How we are going to achieve our vision or goal … Strategy Build stronger foundations Transition successfully The new model becomes business as usual It is at least a 2-3 year plan (2013 to 2015).

  4. Priorities 2013-14 Raise public image and awareness Strengthen the club Increase Humanitarian Services

  5. The Club should keep doing Stick with the strategy a more modern, community-aware, visible Club as the main focus, attract new, younger, enthusiastic members

  6. The Club should keep doing Keep the things that make our meetings valued Friendly, welcoming atmosphere Forward planning of the programme Regular planned social events One or two major events held offsite Plenty of notice.

  7. The Club should keep doing Continue our major fundraising projects Stadium work and the book fair Unless alternatives are available Share stadium duty with another organisation when it is difficult to find enough volunteers. Support the Rotary Foundation and its programmes.

  8. The Club could do better Better communication Reports on Board meetings Weekly Directors’ reports on plans and progress Forums three times a year Members invited to submit items for discussion Better information about the finances ‘Fireside’ meetings at members’ homes Regularly have a committee night on Tuesday with each committee deciding how they want to hold their meeting.

  9. The Club could do better Better meetings All members should be involved in introducing and thanking guest speakers, with guidance provided A dedicated Sergeant, or a very few members Add vibrancy e.g. changing meeting format Change the dinner arrangements Reinstitute the singing of the National Anthem on a regular basis, say at least once a month.

  10. The Club could do better Improved induction of new members Shepherding and mentoring new members through their first few months, assigning them tasks. Hold meetings with new members A brief job description of roles for new members e.g., welcome, introduce speaker etc. to give advice like, time to arrive, where to gather information.

  11. The Club could do better Better premises A more modern meeting venue Fewer committees Combine rotary foundation and international Combine vocational and community or youth Have spokespersons for sub-parts Improved historical records The President’s and Directors’ end-of-year reports should be collated.

  12. The Club could drop At meetings Grace prior to dinner The picture of the Queen Corner meetings of committees and replace them with ‘fireside’ meetings Projects Focus on fewer projects given reduced membership The citrus fruit project Assess whether the Dictionaries in Schools project is still relevant and valued.

  13. The Club should consider Projects Rotary Neighbourhood Project Commit to the Salvation Army Appeal annually Beautify the Tawa Valley Pathway (Ara Tawa) Stage an event at the refurbished Grasslees reserve Partnerships Link in with an organisation like The Salvation Army to support people who may need help with activities, such as cleaning up sections of people whose circumstances have taken a turn for the worst - active support rather than monetary.

  14. The Club should consider Activities A games evening e.g. the games we used to play A car rally with questions on the way Programme Hold an ‘inspirational’ month where we try and get speakers that have succeeded in sports or business or overcoming life’s hurdles.

  18. Membership numbers 1995 - 72 2000 – 65 (-10%) 2005 – 55 (-15%) 2010 – 46 (-16%) 2013 – 38 (-17%) 2014 – 41 (+8%)

  20. Raise public image and awareness Continue President Irene’s focus Tell the community what we do Present a positive image Create a Tawa Rotary presence in the community, raise its profile The community connects specific good deeds with Tawa Rotary

  21. Focus Humanitarian Services Continue President Irene’s emphasis on undertaking community projects that: Maintain our fundraising ability Are relevant to the communities we serve Are relevant to our members’ abilities, skills and interests Are visible to the community
