  8. Yes/No Questions with Simple Present Tense To form a question with he, she, it, everyone, family or a singular subject: Does + subject + base form . . . . .? e.g. Does + Sara + have car? Does + everyone + pay taxes? Does + your family + visit you? To form a questions with I, you, we, they or a plural subject: Do + subject + base form . . . . .? e.g. Do + you + work hard? Do + Americans + vote for the president? Do + they + pay taxes?

  9. Yes/No Questions + Short Answers It is usual to answer a Yes/No question with a short answer. Form: Yes + subject pronoun + do/does. No + subject pronoun + don’t/doesn’t. e.g. Do you visit your mother often? Yes, I do. / No, I don’t. Does he drive a Toyota? Yes, he does. / No, he doesn’t.

Examples: Are you lost? No, I’m not. Do you need help? No, I don’t. Am I right? Yes, you are. Do I have the answer? Yes, I do. Is he from Peru? Yes, he is. Does he speak French? Yes, he does.

How many cigarettes (Ana / to smoke) a day? Only 5. 4. Where (you / to have) lunch? At home 5. What (she / to do)? She’s a teacher. 6. When (Peter / to play) tennis? On Mondays. 7. Where (you / to come from)? From Argentina. 8. What music (your boyfriend / to like)? Pop music. 9. How often (he / to write) an e-mail? Every day! 10. Why (we / to learn) phonetics? It’s important.

  15. Wh- Questions with – Be and Other Verbs Use do or does in a question with a Simple Present Tense verb. e.g. How many floors does the building have? What do you want to see? How much does it cost? Don’t use be to form a Simple Present Tense question: • e.g. How much does it costs? x How much is it cost?
