  2. Dishonest aspects • Throughout the Wizard of Oz, there are many examples of dishonest behaviour. However, the most prominent occasion of dishonesty is by far the moment when the wizard lies to Dorothy about his “great powers”. For example, “I am Oz the great and terrible!” Although he may look and sound entirely pompous and courageous; in reality he is just a meek, low self-esteemed old man.

  3. Why? • The wizard acts like this because he tries to heighten his own self-esteem by putting others down and making them feel small and afraid, therefore giving himself a sense of both intellectual, mental and physical superiority. Furthermore, it acts like a mental barrier for himself and others to not see what he truly is… a coward.

  4. How does this relate to the way people act today? • The way this relates to the way people act in society today is that some people try to pretend that they are tougher than they truly are, for example: bullies, world leaders, politicians, gangs etc. • To take bullies as an example to dwell on: they do this because [just like the wizard] they are afraid and insecure and may have been previously bullied themselves. Similarly to the wizard, bullies pick on those who are physically weaker than themselves as they are afraid of retaliation. • Also dishonesty does not only effect the dishonest one but lets down and upsets the ones around you.

  5. When dishonesty goes wrong Rarely, when you are lying, will everything go to plan; as for the majority of the time, dishonesty will backfire onto you so everything will go wrong and trouble will be coming your way. Unfortunately, many people have had to find out the hard way, [including the wizard].If there is one thing you can achieve from life, it should be to learn from other people’s mistakes. Everything turned upside down for the wizard when little Toto knocked over the screen to reveal the real and not so powerful wizard of Oz. This proves that the little white lie might be believable for a while, however, in the long run that little white lie will develop and turn into humungous black, barely believable lie.

  6. What are the consequences of dishonesty • Nothing good will come of dishonesty, as the wizard discovered, as he was accidentally found out by the tiniest dog. This shows that it doesn’t take much to find the truth so it is always best to work towards this moral: honesty is the best policy. If the wizard had worked with that in mind, he would have had many friends and a clear conscience. Although it seemed that the wizard took the worst hit of the consequences, that was not entirely the case. Unfortunately, the wizard’s dishonesty did not only effect the wizard, but it seriously effected the ones around him.

  7. The moral of this story Honesty is the best policy!
