  5. Ms. Attaway’s Reading class • Reading: We will be using the Scott Foresman curriculum. We will also read several different novels for our novel studies. With our novel studies, students will do a variety of assessments, activities, and projects. During this first nine weeks period, we’ll read Anne of Green Gables. These books are available at Books-A-Million behind the counter. Ask a sales clerk for a copy and tell them it is for my class. Please purchase a copy if you haven’t done so, by August 22nd. • Percentages: • 50%-Minor grades (includes vocabulary, skill sheets, novel activities) • 50%-Major grades (includes weekly skills tests, teacher-made tests, projects, and*unit tests tests)

  6. Ms. Attaway’s Language Arts Class Grammar/Spelling/Writing curriculum: Scott Foresman and Houghton Mifflin We will study a grammar and spelling skill each week and test each Friday (some may be given on Thursdays, but students will know in advance). Students will also complete a variety of writing assignments that cover the different types of writing. Percentages: • 50%- Minor grades (skill pages, homework, journals, quizzes) • 50%-Major grades (weekly spelling and grammar tests, writing projects, and unit tests) • Handwriting will receive Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory

  7. HOMEWORK & MAKE-UP WORK Homework that is not turned in or completed will result in -10 points from each subject’s homework average. Students will also have silent snack/lunch if no homework was turned in. Make-up work is due to me within 3 days after an unexcused absence. Students with excused absences will have up to 14 days to make up work. Students will be held accountable and responsible for checking the make-up work basket. If work is not completed/turned-in during the allotted time, the student will receive a zero for the assignment.

  8. Discipline Plan • I believe that all students have the right to a safe and non-disruptive learning environment. Students simply perform best in environments where everyone is respected and treated fairly. As the teacher, it is my responsibility to make sure every child has the same opportunity to learn. Any misbehavior that hinders learning or teacher instruction will not be tolerated. My plan correlates with our SOAR program. • Please refer to the packet for rules, consequences, and rewards. Please go over this with your child, sign and return it next week with remaining paperwork.

  9. Soar Changes • Please refer to the student handbook for the SOAR process and procedures. • One of the main changes with the program is that students will not go to detention to redeem points lost. • Once a student has hit 80, a parent/teacher/administrator conference will be held.
