  2. ...so what is CoCoRaHS? • Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network • A nationwide network of volunteer observers who measure precipitation

  3. 27 states currently part of network • Adding at least 9 more by end of 2008 • Started in 1998 after devastating flood in Ft. Collins, CO

  4. How is CoCoRaHS different? • Very high density network • Precipitation only

  6. What does a CoCoRaHS observer do? • Uses standard 4” rain gauge • Takes daily rainfall measurement each morning • Enters data on CoCoRaHS website

  7. What does a CoCoRaHS observer do? • May also measure snow depth and water content of snow

  8. What does a CoCoRaHS observer do? • Observers may also submit special reports of heavy rain, snow and hail • These reports go directly to the National Weather Service to help with storm and flash flood warnings

  11. How do I sign up? • Register at CoCoRaHS website (www.cocorahs.org) • Take observer training

  12. What can I do in the meantime? • Browse CoCoRaHS website (www.cocorahs.org) • View online training presentation • Obtain and set up 4” rain gauge
