  3. Headache disorders Identifying the problem Headache disorders are • real • common • occur everywhere in all age groups • burdensome • remediable

Headache disorders • WHO ranks migraine alone 19th amongst causes of disability (World Health Report 2001) • Other primary headache burden combined, headache disorders are likely to be in top 10 • In E, approx. 180 million days absent from school or work because of migraine every day; estimated direct cost >20 billion euros p.a.

  5. The challenge: “It’s only headache.”

  9. ...continued • 2004 Lifting The Burden launched, a formal partnership with WHO, WHA, IHS and EHF (professional NGOs); • 2007 Neurological disorders in public health; • 2009 LTB becomes an independent charity

  11. Eurolight - Highlighting the impact of headache in Europe - Pilot project in Luxembourg 2003- - Directed and initiated by Colette Andrée, Switzerland/Luxembourg, a patient representative

  12. Eurolight Financial support from EC (European Agency of Health and Consumers, EAHC) Hosted and lead by Center of Public Health Research, Luxembourg

  13. Partnership in Eurolight - 24 patient groups, hospitals, academic institutions; • associated and affiliated partners; • results and continuation in 2010
