Important Terms • Ionization- The energy required to remove an electron from an individual atom during the gas phase • Electronegativity-The relative ability of an atom in a molecule to attract shared electrons to itself • AtomicRadius- Half the distance between the atomic nuclei in a molecule consisting of identical atoms

Ionization Trends • Ionization Energy- the energy required to remove an electron from an individual atom in the gas phase • As elements go farther down on the table the ionization decreases • As elements go to the right their ionization increases • This would mean that Fr would have the least ionization energy and F would have the most

  4. Electronegativity • As elements go farther down on the table, electronegativity decreases • As elements go farther right on the table, electronegativity increases • This would mean that Fr is has the least electronegativity level while F has the greatest

  5. Atomic Radius • As elements go farther down on the table, atomic radius increases • As elements go farther right on the table, atomic radius decreases • This would mean that Fr is has the greatest atomic radius level while F has the smallest

  6. Periodic Law • Elements are arranged by atomic number, there is a periodic repetition in their physical and chemical properties.
