  2. 1A Definition • Pattern 1A uses a conjunctive adverb such as however, hence, therefore, thus, then, moreover, nevertheless, likewise, consequently, and accordingly.

  3. Structure Subject _____ Verb; however, Subject _______ Verb. ****The comma after the conjunctive adverb is optional.

  4. Conjunctive Adverbs -however -therefore -hence -thus -then • -moreover • -nevertheless • -likewise • -consequently • The listed words are conjunctive adverbs; they are to be used in pattern 1A after the semicolon to connect the two thoughts.

  5. Example • In Transformers, Bumblebee was my favorite Autobot; therefore, the Camaro is my favorite car.

  6. Example • Cadillac cars are very nice; however, some are highly expensive.

  7. Example • Many people like the new 2010 Camaro; however, some people prefer the old version of the car.

  8. Example • My favorite Cadillac cars are the calssic CTS and Escalade; therefore, I prefer old versions of the Cadillac.

  9. Example • I wrecked my brand new Camaro; consequently, I do not have a car to drive.

  10. Example • My Cadillac has hydraulics, spinning rims, and candy paint with it; however, my parents do not like it.
