The Olympic Rings • 5 interlocking rings make up the Olympic Emblem. • The rings are of equal dimensions and are in 5 different colours. • The colours are blue,yellow, black, green and redon a white background. • Each ring represents a continent and the joining of the rings represents the union of these continents. • The continents are North and South America (these are considered one area), Africa, Australia, Asia and Europe. • The Olympic symbol was originally designed in 1912 by Baron Pierre de Coubertin.

  3. London 2012 • The London Olympics Emblem is based on the number 2012. • This is the year of the games. The word London reminds us of the host city. • The vision at the heart of the games is that London 2012 will be ‘Everyone’s Games’.

  4. Olympic Mascots Wenlockand Mandeville are the official mascots for the London Olympics and the Paralympic Games 2012. Wenlock and Mandeville

  5. The Olympic Motto The Olympic motto is made up from the Latin words: ‘Citius, Altius, Fortius’. This means: Faster Higher Stronger

  6. Horse Riding Events There are 3 types of horse riding events at the London Olympics in 2012. These are: • Equestrian Dressage • Equestrian Eventing • Equestrian Jumping

  7. Cycling Events There are 4 types of Cycling events: • BMX • Mountain Biking • Road Cycling • Track Cycling

  8. Swimming Events There are 2 types of swimming events: • Swimming • Synchronised Swimming

  9. Water Events Other water events are: • Diving • Water Polo • Sailing • Rowing • Canoeing

  10. Ball Events There are many ball events. These include: • Basketball • Volleyball • Football • Handball • Tennis • Table Tennis • Hockey
