AVID Facilitators • Job Description • Assists with study, note-taking and test preparation skills in all subject areas. • Facilitates Tutorial Sessions • Reviews student binders as needed. • Uses appropriate assigned teaching materials. • Monitors and documents student progress. • Increases college awareness and readiness. • Communicates with teachers and instructional leaders as appropriate. • Serves as student mentor and role model. • Participates in regularly scheduled training sessions. • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance. • Turns in accurate monthly time sheet in timely manner. • Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.

  4. Job Posting • Each AVID site places a posting in the CCSD STAR system. The school secretary will provide assistance with this process. • Go to STAR : Job Vacancy Work Flow • Log in • Initiate requisition • Fill out all required information: look for classified/ professional: then click on AVID Facilitator • Put in hours per day, times per day, part time, starting date • Schools may NOT hire AVID facilitators (this includes re-hiring last year’s tutor) unless they have posted a position • Start date will be after the third week of school • Each Job posting will only stay active for four (4) weeks • Contact Jessica.fulmer@cobbk12.org for a list of trained facilitators

  5. Hiring Process • Principal and/or designee reviews cleared applications online. Note: Schools are not to interview candidates until their applications appear on STAR. • Once a school identifies an applicant to hire, the school must submit an Employee Action Form (EAF) to HR. • Indicate amount facilitator is to be paid in the Comments section • AVID teacher or school secretary may contact Jessica.fulmer@cobbk12.org for information regarding completion of training / pay amount for facilitators • Facilitators are not cleared to work with students until they complete the first module of training and turn in the Authorization to Report Form to the appropriate school personnel. • When at all possible, hire an experienced facilitator • The AVID coordinator or other designee, must email the name of your facilitator to Jessica Chafin, Jessica.fulmer@cobbk12.org.

Pay and Budgets Amount they are paid per hour • New Facilitator:$9.10 per hour • Trained Facilitator: $14.25 per hour Amount to take out of your AVID Budget per hour • New Facilitator: $9.83 • Trained Facilitator: $15.40 Be sure to keep track of your tutor budget. The ALP office does not have funds to cover any overages. See purple handout for school budgets

  7. Schedules • All schools were given budgets based on the number of AVID sections • Schedule tutorials 2x per week • May use some of your hours for binder checks • May have tutorials ANY day of the week: school choice • Work with surrounding schools to share tutors • Do not schedule tutors during the last week of the semester, first week of second semester, or during the week of testing • Tutorial Observations will take place this year

Expectations: AVID Teacher • Takes an active part in coaching classroom tutors and in developing the academic and personal strength of AVID students. • Takes care in implementing the AVID Program so that it aligns with the 11 Essentials. • Becomes a master of the stages of the AVID tutorial and the inquiry learning process and coaches teachers/tutors • AssistsAVID tutors/students in developing personal pride and commitment

Expectations: AVID Tutor • Takes an active part in developing the academic and personal strength of AVID students. • Tutor becomes thoroughly grounded in AVID strategies (WICR) • Becomes a master of each stage of the AVID tutorial and the inquiry learning process • AssistsAVID students in developing personal pride. • Serves as a role model/mentor to AVID students. • Are expected to be active learners, not experts.

Expectations: AVID Students • Are actively involved in their own education and grow academically and personally through the support of the AVID program. • Become thoroughly grounded in AVID strategies (WICR: writing, inquiry, collaboration, and reading). • Become masters of each stage of the AVID tutorial and the inquiry learning process • Develop personal pride in themselves and their work. • Develop and foster dispositions of academic success in themselves and their classmates.

Expectations: AVID Teacher • Coaches students and tutors in the tutorial process. • Coachesstudents/tutors to share responsibility for monitoring their own/each other’s behavior. • Rotates to observe each group during the period. • Models higher-level questioning; validates students who ask higher level questions.

Expectations: AVID Tutor • Coaches and works with one group the entire period. • Sits with the tutorial group and away from the student presenter. • Facilitates the group and pushes the thinking of all students to a higher level. • Takes Cornell notes for the student presenter and models Cornell notetaking for the group of students

Expectations: AVID Students • Works at board presenting his/her question to group as tutor takes Cornell notes. • Shares prior knowledge with group and uses group member questions to assist in working toward a solution. • Presents higher-level question based on classroom performance in core subject areas. • Records own and group thinking on board.

Reporting Requirements • Site Team Plan: Due August 30 (ALP Office) • Site Team Updated on MyAVID.org: September 3 (AVID.org) • ISS Due: November 17 (AVID.org) • General Data Due: November 30 (AVID.org) • CSS Due: 2 weeks before your CSS visit (AVID.org) • Senior Data Due: April 30 (AVID.org) Cobb County due dates differ from those posted on the AVID website

Curriculum • AVID Weekly Reader: • Access to new articles and last year’s • Share with content teachers • 20 user IDs per school • Library Transfer • PSAT: MS needs to schedule practice PSAT • Contact K Busko if you do not have the materials • Resource Order • Collaboration Days • Expectation for all current AVID teachers to attend
