Types of Families. Grade 8 Health. Nuclear Family. A nuclear family is defined as a mother, father and children living in a household together. Extended Family. An extended family may have other members of the family living in the household with the nuclear family. Ex: Grandparents.

  2. Nuclear Family A nuclear family is defined as a mother, father and children living in a household together

  3. Extended Family An extended family may have other members of the family living in the household with the nuclear family. Ex: Grandparents

  4. Blended Families Blended families occur when two families join together. In the picture you see a TV family from the 1970’s called The Brady Bunch. This show was about a father with 3 sons who married a mother with 3 daughters.

  5. Single-parent Families Write your own definition of a single-parent family?

  6. Other types of families How many other types of families can you think of? Do you think the types of families that were depicted in the previous slides help to form stereotypes?
