Environment and Law Research Programme • The Research Programme is financed by the Academy of Finland (and Ministry of the Environment) • Supreme Administrative Court provides non-monetary contribution • Duration 1.1.2005 –31.12.2008 • Budget 2,5 million euros • Co-ordination of the research programme is carried out by the Department of Law at the University of Joensuu • The purpose is to strengthen research of legal and social institutions and practices and to create co-operation between researchers of law and other disciplines. Aims of the Programme • To strengthen research on the legal and social systems and practices concerning the environment and natural resources; • To promote and deepen multidisciplinary research approaches in studies of environmental law; and • To support and generate national and international networks of cooperation between universities, research institutes and different disciplines. Expected Themes of Research • Man, environment and law; • Means of environmental policy control; • Sustainable use of natural resources and biodiversity; • Product and consumption-based environmental protection and environmental responsibility; • The use of land and water areas and building; and • International questions.
