  2. What you’ll need • Kitchen • Ingredients • Utensils • Sugar • Spice • Everything nice

  3. The kitchen • Make sure the area is clean enough to handle food in. You don’t want to spread and germs or bacteria which may result in sickness. Ways to prevent this include: • Washing hands consistently • Keeping countertops and dishes clean • Maintaining food in proper temperature • Rinse any food that might have • pesticides or chemicals

  4. Ingredients 1/2 • Cake • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled, plus more for buttering cake pan • 1/2 cup (2 1/2 ounces) unbleached all-purpose flour plus more for dusting cake pan • 1/4 cup Dutch-process cocoa • Pinch of salt • 6 large eggs, at room temperature • 3/4 cup (4 3/4 ounces) superfine sugar • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  5. Ingredients 2/2 • Syrup • 1/2 cup sugar • 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) kirsch • Assembly • 4 cups heavy cream • 1 cup (4 ounces) powdered sugar • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract • 2 cups Spirited Sour Cherries , drained, or a 24-ounce jar sour cherries 8 fresh cherries with stems are optional • About 2 1/2 ounces dark chocolate (at least 60% cacao) in a single block • About 1/2 cup ground dark chocolate (at least 60% cacao) or chocolate cookie crumbs • Powdered sugar for dusting

  6. Making the cake • Preheat oven to 350 degrees • Sift ingredients together for 8 to 12 minutes • Pour batter into pan and cook for 40 minutes or until cake is completely firm. • Let cool for 5 minutes after

  7. Making the syrup • Place the sugar and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring the mixture to a boil while stirring to dissolve the sugar. Add the kirsch and remove from the heat. Pour the syrup into a small cup or bowl and set it aside. • Another option is to include cherries to give it more texture.

  8. Assembling the cake • Make frosting by whipping cream, sugar and vanilla on high until it holds firm. • Create tiers by putting the syrup in every other layer to give it more texture(or if you just want to be fancy). • Once stacked, cut around cake to make it evenly balanced. • Take frosting and cover entire thing. • Cherries and chocolate shavings are optional, but more often traditionally added.

  9. Bon appetit! • Enjoy the finished piece!
