  5. The main point of this lesson is…never leave the kitchen when cooking!

  6. What Are 3 elements fire needs in order to get started?

  7. A Fire Needs… • Oxygen • Heat • Flammable Substance

  8. How do you put out a grease fire? • Do NOT use a fire extinguisher. • Put on oven mitts. • Slide a cookie sheet over the pan. • Do not remove or you will add oxygen to the fire!

  9. Microwaves, toaster oven and other small appliances • Keep the door to the microwave closed. • Get everyone out of the house. Call 911 • Use a cell phone to call the fire department • What item should you never put in a microwave? • Do not use water! Why?

  10. Pay attention to the cleanliness and layout of your kitchen. • Does your stove have grease built up on it? • Where do you keep the paper towels? • Where do you keep the hand towels? • Do you have paper or mail around the areas you may cook? • Is your smoke alarm close to the kitchen?

  11. What should you wear when cooking? PROPER ATTIRE DO NOT Keep long hair down Wear loose fitting clothing • Chef Coat or apron • Tight fitting clothing • Long Hair up

  12. Remember is a fire is out of control…. 1st Get everyone out! Then Call 911
