  3. IT Academy • Is not a new university; • It is a cooperation program between government, universities and industry.

  4. Value proposition for stakeholders • Government – ICT education development at all educational levels by one institution, students dropoutwill decline; • Industry – more well educated IT specialists; • Universities – best possibilities for improving the quality of studies and research; • Students – Recognized diploma, up-to-date skills.

  5. Main objectives • To improve the international competitiveness of IT studies; • To fulfil the needs of IT industry for quality graduates; • To support the growth of Estonian economy.

  6. Main activities • International marketing; • Additional financing of selected curriculas; • Scholarships; • Compensation of tuitionfee.

  7. Main indicators • Increase in admission; • Increase in graduates with nominal time; • Percentage of foreign students in courses taught in English; • Students satisfaction; • Alumni satisfaction; • Quality of graduates (90% working in the IT sector); • Employers satisfaction with graduates; • 50% of professors are selected by 2015 through international and multicandidate competitions.

  8. Administrative model • The program is administrated by Information Technology Foundation for Education. • ITFE’s aims are to assist in preparation of the highly qualified IT specialists and to support information and communication technology-related development in Estonia.

  9. ITFE’s support programs for ICT higher education • IT Academy • Government: 2,7 MEUR in 2013 • Skype 0,1 MEUR in 2013 • „Tiger University“ • Government: O,9 MEUR • ICT Program: • Total budget for 2012-2015 4,8 MEUR • 85% European Regional Development fund • 15% Government and partners

  10. Annual key events • The annual budget will be confirmed by Parliament in December, followed with the contract with Estonian Ministry of Education and Research. • The Steering Committee gathers 4 times in a year to confirm major developments and changes if needed.

  11. Growth of IT Academy program 2009 - the Estonian Development Fund, universities and industry initiated IT Academy. Oct 2011 – the Steering Committee and program is confirmed;. Dec 2011 – 4 curricula´s will operate under the program starting from 2012/2013 study year. March 2012 – marketing plan is set. April 2012 - contract with Skype Technologies OÜ. September 2012 – first admission under IT Academy. ICT student´s admission number increased by 36% (85% increase at BA level). Oct 2012 – 6 curricula´s will operate under the program starting from 2013/2014 study year.

Cyber Security(MScfrom TUT) • Strong involvement of specialists from banks, telecom, CERT, NATO. • Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence. • Best competence in the field of cyber security of both Tallinn University of Technology and University of Tartu involved. • Specialisation in technological or organisational aspects or a combination of both. • A possibility to specialise to digital forensics will be available from admission of 2014. • Students from all continents. Broad spectrum of future contacts.

  17. Computer and Systems Engineering(MScfrom TUT) • Programme focuses on design, implementation and application of modern complex computer systems. • Entrepreneurship and innovation module added to curriculum. • Uses the latest software and hardware to develop practical skills. • Close cooperation and networking with the IT industry. • Two specialisations: - Computer Systems Design; - Automation and Systems Engineering.

  18. SoftwareEngineering(MScfrom UT) • Taught in English; • Focuses on software engineering and management skills, as well as specialized skills in two major software application domains:enterprise systems and embedded real-time systems.

  19. Computer Science(MSc from UT) – in Estonian • Deeper foundations of computer science; • Specialisation in Data Mining, Distributed and Mobile computing,Cryptography and Security, Language Technology, Programming Languages and systems, Bioinformatics • Opportunities to study subjects from across entire University.

  20. Informatics(BA from TUT) • Focuses on development skills of software, information systems and network technology. • Broad education in software technology, computer science and information systems. • Advanced track for strong students.

  21. Computer Science(BA from UT) – in Estonian • Broad foundations of computer science; • Additional focus on the Software Development skills; • Opportunities to study interdisciplinary subjects from across entire University.
