  2. Hope • Submarine S-4: “i-s t-h-e-r-e a-n-y h-o-p-e” • Perpetual cry of humanity . . . • A message of salvation (Acts 13:16-43) • Jesus was executed but God raised him (v 28-30) • We have forgiveness of sins and are set free (v 38-39) • A solid basis for hope

  3. 1. God has overcome my Past • God brings peace, healing, forgiveness. • “new birth into a living hope” (1 Pet 1:3-5) • 6 year old Prayer: “Please help me be the person my dog thinks I am” • All from our past is taken care of in Christ.

  4. 2. God is with me in the Present • A risen Saviour can be with us (John 14:18-20) • Not always easy or comfortable, but blessed • A secure anchor for our souls (Heb 6:17-19) • We walk with God as heirs of his promises.

  5. 3. God has secured my future • We have Victory over death (1 Cor 15: 26, 54) • Undo what death has done – restore life. • Our bodies become imperishable (1 Cor 15:52) • Paul appeals to the whole OT story. • Restoration of the reign of God – restoring Eden. • An Assured Hope (1 Cor 15:58)

Hope based on Truth • Jesus’ resurrection grounds our lives. • Jaded by false promises • Truth can be irrelevant to our lives. • Some truths matter ! ! • Truth about an empty tomb is a balm to our souls. • Hope: • Over my past: God has overcome my fears and failures • Over the present: God is with me every day • For the future: I will be with God forever.
