  2. Good Sources of Information • News Sources (news papers/magazines) • cite research done by others • Research Organizations (Think Tanks) • University websites • Scholarly Journals – they do the research that news articles cite • .org sites • .gov sites (for factual information only)

  3. Bad Sources of Information • Wiki sites – these can be edited by anyone at any time • .com (can be used…but can be very risky) • Blogs (when the author doesn’t have valid credentials) • Biased source (someone that has something to gain from the passage of plan)

How to Cut Evidence - After you have the actual article • Copy/Paste the article into a MS Word document. • Find and underline the claim • This is the argument that you want to make with this evidence. • Find and underline the warrants for the claim • This explains why the author makes the claim that they make • Make sure that you underline in a way that is grammatically correct. • Make sure that nothing you have omitted will change…in any way…the intent of the author.

  7. Tags • Change the claim of the evidence into your own words. • The tag needs to be a statement. • The wording of the tag needs to be the response…the evidence simply supports this response/argument.

Citations • Even though we don’t read the full citation…we still need to have it. • Author’s full name • Author’s credentials • The reason that we know they are an expert • Date the article was published. • Title of article. • Title of source • name of magazine/journal/newspaper/website/etc • URL • Finally, copy and paste the author’s last name and the year to the front of the cite.
