William Howe G.B. commander After taking Boston in June 1775, Left in March 1776 when he realized G.W. had cannons over top his position at Nook’s Hill Washington almost lost Army for the 1st time Olive Branch Petition- asking king to end conflict - Kings response- No and Blockade

    5. Battle of New York Aug. 1776 Gen. Howe drives Washington and his troops out of New York Washington almost loses his army for the 2nd time War is almost over before it really starts Fall and winter are approaching and chooses not to pursue Washington because Spring is approaching

    6. Saratoga October 1777 G.B. had a long supply line and moved slowly from Montreal towards Albany Swamps, lakes, forest, hills Burgoyne’s forces surrendered to Gen. Horatio Gates and Benedict Arnold’s Patriot forces France formally joined U.S. war effort as a result of this U.S. victory With France entering the picture the revolution becomes an International war
