  13. Many Company's are Using Online Job Applications

  14. Where do I begin… • Do your homework: • Many company’s offer detailed company overview, job descriptions, profiles of recent hires, location and requirement information directly on the application website – Read It! • Tailor your application to the job you apply to: • Figure out the kind of people they employ and whether there is a 'cultural fit' with the type of person you are. Identify the employer's selection criteria. You should emphasize these qualities when you fill in the form. • Screen yourself: • Do a bit of self-assessment. If you know you are not suited to an organization, or if you don't meet their basic criteria (field of study or language requirements), then turn your attention elsewhere. • Take your time: • Download the form and have a good think about your answers, especially those that require you to use your brain. Make sure your spelling and grammar is as watertight as ever. Use the 'save and return' facility. Make sure you're happy with the whole form before you press 'submit'.

  15. Application Must Have’s • Basic information • Your Name • Contact Information • Education (with dates) • Work/Internship Experience (with explanation of role) • Special Skills/Certifications (with dates) • Tailor your CV and Cover Letter to the job you are applying for… • Keywords • Skills • Highlights of your experiences • Application Process • Application Deadlines Don’t forget to spell check!!!

  16. Application Tip Number 1 Ask questions! Some of applications are quite confusing, so don't hesitate to contact the company's human resources department or utilize the online question/answer tools to get your questions answered.

  17. Application Tip Number 2 Keywords We receive mass amounts of resumes so recruiters tend to scan for keywords. Pull the language out of the job ad and put it into your resume and cover letter.

  18. Application Tip Number 5 Spell Check (have I mentioned this yet?) The online applications often don't have a spell check option. Paste the text into a program that has spell check and confirm there are no errors. Then transfer it to the online application.

  19. Extra Notes… • Recruiters get hundreds of CV’s every week, most of them named “resume.doc” don’t let your CV get lost in the shuffle…label it with your name and date of application • Spelling errors are unacceptable, now and forever
