  1. AssuredCopy Quick Start

  2. AssuredCopy - Basic Facts AssuredCopy - Ability to copy a point in time data capture of either a master volume or a snapshot to a completely independent volume. • Licensed feature • Takes advantage of our snapshot technology • But does not need licensed snapshots to work properly • Does not impact snapshot count at all • Can copy up to 255 volumes • Requires an annual support contract Dot Hill Systems NDA Material

  3. Licensed Feature • Must obtain a license key to use this feature Dot Hill Systems NDA Material

  4. AssuredCopy - Copy • Manage > Volume Management > Volume Copy Services > Volume Copy • Select Vdisk destination • Enter Volume Name Dot Hill Systems NDA Material

  5. AssuredCopy - Status • Manage > Volume Management > Volume Copy Services > Volume Copy Status • Shows detailed information about volume copy operation • Last line gives % complete The volume copy operation copies the entire volume, block for block. So a sparsely populated 100GB volume and a fully populated 100GB volume will take the same amount of time to copy. Dot Hill Systems NDA Material

  6. AssuredCopy - Abort • Manage > Volume Management > Volume Copy Services > Abort Volume Copy • Select Vdisk destination • Enter Volume Name Dot Hill Systems NDA Material

  7. Volume Copy Operation • Only works with master volumes or snapshots • Must have an associated snap pool • A snapshot is taken and the copy process starts • Can not mount the snapshot taken for the purpose of creating a volume copy • If you create the copy from a snapshot you can mount the volume • Once the copy operation is completed the snapshot is deleted • Unless the volume copy was initiated from a snapshot to begin with Dot Hill Systems NDA Material

  8. Additional Points and Restrictions • Additional points • When a volume copy is initiated on a master volume or the original data corresponding to a snapshot, the master volume and/or snapshot can continue to be accessed and updated. • Volume copies initiated on the master volume do not count against the snapshot license count • Restrictions • The source and destination of a volume copy must both be owned by the same preferred controller. • While the volume copy is in process, the new volume cannot be mounted for access. • If the copy is from the modified data of a snapshot, the snapshot must first be unmounted from the host prior to starting the copy, and must remain unmounted through-out the copy process. • Copies of a standard volume is not supported. • Volume Copy and Rollback cannot happen at the same time for the same Master Volume. 9. Scheduling Tasks • Schedule Task • Starting Date • Recurrence • Constraints • Expiration • Name • Capability to schedule either an AssuredCopy or AssuredSnap operation Dot Hill Systems NDA Material

  10. Volume Copy: Volumecopy Initiates a copy of a master volume or snapshot to a new volume show volumecopy-status Show status for the volume copies in process abort volumecopy Abort the specified volume copy CLI Commands Dot Hill Systems NDA Material

  11. AssuredCopy Protect against data loss or corruption • Description • Complete physical and independent copy of a data volume (i.e., volume copy) • Discrete (vs. continuous) action • Copy of a master or a snapshot volume • Benefits • Data protection • Additional protection against vdisk or complete volume failure • Non-disruptive use of production data • Mitigate resource contention and performance impact on production volume • Applications • Data Restoration • Backup • Development & Test • Decision Support and Data Mining • Data Migration Dot Hill Systems NDA Material

  12. We do not maintain any changes that have occurred in the original volume once the copy has started While the volume is being copied, the source volume is available for read/write operations The volume being copied must reside on the same controller. After the copy has completed, the physical disks can be relocated to a separate sub-system Competitive Matrix – Quick Look A full Competitive Matrix is available at www.dothill.com Dot Hill Systems NDA Material
