  2. ジェイポップ (J-Pop) • A loose term that refers to Japanese popular music in general. • Modern J-pop music dates back to the 1960s with the popularity of ようがく (western music) such as the Beatles. • Many かしゅ today start their fanbases as せいゆ (voice actors/actresses) for アニメ and/or Japanese dubs. • 有名な かしゅ: • 水樹 奈々 • 平野 綾 • 神田 実苑 • 神田 來未 • 浜崎 あゆみ き  な ひらの あや こうだ  みその くみ はまさき

  3. ヴィジュアル系 (Visual Kei) けい • Among the most popular sub-genres of ジェイロック is ヴィジュアル系 (literally “visual style”).ヴィジュアル系 is characterized by the use of メイキャップ, ふくざつな かみ (elaborate hair), and costumes. Often, the band members resemble women. • The sound and look are often punk/metal/glam-rock, as well as gothic and/or alternative rock. • Visual kei fashion is mainly inspired by Victorian, Baroque, Regency, and Rococo fashion trends. • Some bands include • The GAZETTE • Ayabie • Nightmare • TM Revolution • FLOW • Nightmare • Versailles

  5. ボーカロイド (Vocaloid) • ヤマハの プログラムの ボーカロイドは にんきが あります!It is quickly spreading across the globe. • The popularity began with the Vocaloid 2 mascot, 初音 ミク, and the popularity of the original program rose upon her release, with freelance musicians harnessing her ability to “sing”. 歌いましょう! • There is also the freeware program UTAU, which allows fans to make their own “UTAUloid” and try to become famous among UTAU users. はつね うた

  6. ボーカロイド (Vocaloid) • The Vocaloids are • カイト • メイコ • 初音 ミク • 鏡音 リン/レン • 巡り音 ルカ • Gackpoid (derived from Gackt, a famous J-rock singer and はいゆう) • Megpoid/GUMI (derived from Nakajima Megumi, a せいゆ) • Lily (Derived from Yuri Matsuda, a かしゅ • Note how all “official” Vocaloid 2 mascots have the Kanji 「音」in their surnames. This means “sound”, and many UTAU users implement this in their UTAUloids. かがみね めぐね

  7. アニメと ゲームの OST • かしゅ sometimes provide music for TV アニメ, アニメの えいが, and/or ビデオゲーム. • However, game music is usually instrumental and is created by composers. • One of the most well-known game composers is 近藤 浩治, who creates music for マリオと ゼルダの 伝説の ゲーム. こんどう こうじ でんせつ
