  2. CAADP Vision Seek to maximize the contribution of Africa’s highest largest economic sector to achieving the ambition of a self reliant and productive Africa that can play its full part on the world stage.

  3. Areas of primary action1. Extending the area under sustainable land management and reliable water control systems.2. Improving rural infrastructure and trade-related capacities for market access.3. Increasing food supply and reducing hunger.

  4. The ChallengeCurrent situation- Agricultural productivity is low and falling.- increasing spending on agricultural research and extension.- Spending on agricultural research in Africa is stagnant.- Private sector research will not fill the gap.- Agricultural research and extension services are not playing their important roles.

Road to Sustainability1.Technology generation: reform at national level- Reforms of research institutions- policies to encourage innovation- formulating science and technology policy- protecting intellectual property- harmonizing standard and regulation for seed certification and trade- investing in capacity building in long-term

  7. 2. Technology adoption for research agenda at national level- Extension institutions- Mechanism to encourage farmers adopt new technologies -

Strengthening Regional and sub regional research systems - including all stakeholders in planning and collaborative activities.- achieving sustainable financing- expanding use of competitive grants- building long-term capacity- facilitating policy dialogue between countries on technology issues- monitoring and evaluating the impacts of programmes.

  10. ConclusionThe CGIAR institutions in Africa, the APEX bodies, FARA, FAO, African Development Bank, World Bank and African member states are more than ready to see CAADP being operationalise at national and regional levels. HARAAMBE! PHAMBILI ! AMANDLA!
