  • What is a Learning Object?

    • Objective specific lesson available online

  • How are they used?

    • Used to replace or enhance traditional lesson

Precipitating Factors

  • Lack of lab space and time

  • Limited instructor availability

  • Cost of supplies for practice (lab materials may cost as much as $12 each)

  • Limited student-instructor interaction

  • Unsatisfactory pass rates


  • Video Interactive Learning Objects

    • Have specific objectives

    • Are very short (5-15 minutes)

    • Present video recordings of lessons or procedures

    • Have built-in quizzes and are interactive

    • Are widely accessible to students 24/7

    • Are viewed repeatedly


How is this different than class?

  • Viewed prior to class as preparation

  • Viewed by students when they are studying

    • Available on CDs, DVDs, etc.

    • Available via iPod (and other MP4 players)
