Fees and Financial Aid • E-Bills (paperless tuition bill) will be e-mailed to your UCI e-mail address in late August • Financial aid will be applied to fees automatically if you have enrolled in at least 6 units (need to take a minimum of 12 units) Health Insurance • You are automatically enrolled • You can waive out of the plan if you have comparable coverage • Waiver deadline is Sept. 8th, but take care of this earlier • Complete details can be found at: www.shs.uci.edu

  14. Requirements for a Bachelor’s degree • University Requirements • Entry Level Writing (ELW) • 2.0 GPA • Minimum 180 quarter units • Breadth Classes Categories I – VII School, Departmental, and Major Requirements • Specific classes • Reminder: Buy and review the UCI Catalogue

Entry Level Writing (ELW) requirement may be met BEFORE entrance in one of the following ways: • Pass the UC Analytical Writing Placement exam • Score 3 or above on AP English exam • Score 680+ on SAT II Writing test • Score 680+ on SAT Reasoning Test, Writing Section • Score 5 or above on IB Higher Level English A exam • Score 6 or above on IB Standard Level English A exam • Complete a transferable college course in English composition with a grade of ‘C’ or better, before entering UCI

  16. Entry Level Writing (ELW) requirement may be met AFTER entrance in one of the following ways: • Pass the UC Analytical Writing Placement exam • Take Writing 39A, 39A/Plus, or Writing 37 • Enroll in the Humanities Core course S/A section (part of Humanities 1ABC) • Must be completed before beginning of fourth quarter with a grade of ‘C’ or better.

Grade requirement • Minimum grade point average of at least ‘C’ (2.0) is required: • Overall • In all of the courses required for and offered in the major program • In the upper-division courses required for and offered in the major program In any given quarter, if all three of these requirements are not met, you may be subject to probation or disqualification. If your quarterly GPA falls below 2.0, you may be subject to probation or disqualification.

  18. Other Requirements American History and Institutions(may be met in several ways): Most students have satisfied this requirement with high school work. International students, see a counselor for information on how to satisfy therequirement. Residence requirement At least 36 of the final 45 units completed by a student for the bachelor's degree must be earned in residence at the UCI campus. Normal progress toward degreeMust declare a major by the time you reach junior status (90 units, excluding college work completed prior to high school graduation)Must follow the program of study required for your major and graduate when done (normally in four years).

  20. Category I: Writing Lower Division options* 1. Writing 39B and 39C or 2. Writing 37 and 39C or 3. Humanities Core (1A-B-C) or 4. Writing 39B followed by either 30, 31 or 38 Upper Division One course from the list of approved courses from the UCI catalogue *Must be completed by the beginning of the seventh quarter Minimum letter grade of ‘C’ required in Writing 39A, 37, or Humanities 1A S/A Minimum grade of ‘C’ or ‘P’ required in Writing 39B or 39C

  21. Category II: Natural Sciences • Physical Sciences majors meet this requirement with their degree requirements, either Chemistry or Physics.

  22. Category III: Social and Behavioral Sciences • Complete a three-course combination, as follows: 1) Courses must be chosen from the Category III list in the UCI Catalogue 2) At least two of the three courses must be in the same area, and 3) At least one of the three courses must be an introductory course

  23. Category IV: Humanistic Inquiry • Complete a three-course series from one of the following areas: • Arts • Humanities • Interdisciplinary • Literature Courses must be chosen from the list in the UCI Catalogue.

AB exam - score 4 or 5: credit for 2A BC exam - score 4 or 5: credit for 2A & 2B score 3: credit for 2A APcredit: Category V: Mathematics and Symbolic Systems • Physical Sciences majors meet this requirement with the three-course Math series required for their major. Chemistry majors: Math 2A/2B/2D Earth & Environ. Sciences majors: Math 2A/2B/2J Mathematics majors: Math 2A/2B/2D Physics majors: Math 2A/2B/2D

Category VI: Language Other Than English Competency in a language other than English demonstrated through one of the following options: • Completion of the 3rd year of high school foreign language with a C average in the 3rd year • Score of 3, 4 or 5 on an AP exam in a language other than English • Score of 570+ on SAT II exam in a language other than English • Exemption by examination taken at UCI • Completion of 1C level of a language taught at UCI or the equivalent at another college or university • Completion of an approved course of study through the Education Abroad Program (EAP)

Category VII: Multicultural Studies and International/Global Issues • VII-A Multicultural Studies -You must select one course from this area • VII-B International/Global Issues -You must select two courses from this area - May be fulfilled by participation in the Education Abroad Program In fulfilling Category VII, students may use courses which overlap with other breadth categories. For example, Anthropology 2A simultaneously satisfies Category VII-B and a portion of Category III.

Enrolling in classes: • Students use WebSOC (schedule of classes) and WebReg • Access WebSOC and WebReg at http://www.reg.uci.edu • WebReg requires UCInetID and password • Enrollment window • The day and time a student may first enroll in classes for the upcoming term. Check WebReg to find out when you may begin enrolling in classes. New student enrollment windows open mid-August

Things to remember: • Complete Statement of Legal Residence • Review New Student Website • Submit transcripts and AP scores to Admissions • Enroll in classes (windows open mid August) • Pay your fees: deadline September 15th • Check your enrollment during Adjustment Period:September 15-20 • Update your local address at the ‘Student Access’ website • Pick up your Student ID atUC Items (located behind the Student Center on Pereira Drive)

Enrollment information: • To enroll in Chemistry 1A: Pass Chemistry Placement test or Pass Chemistry prep course (Chem1P) at UCI with a ‘C’ or better • To enroll in Chemistry H2A/H2LA: Qualifying score on Chemistry Placement test or Score 4 or 5 on Chemistry AP exam or Score 700+ on Chemistry SAT II exam or Membership in Campuswide Honors Program • To enroll in Mathematics 2A: Pass Pre-calculus Placement Test or Pass Pre-calculus course (Math 1B) at UCI with a ‘C’ or better • To enroll in Physics 7A/LA: Enroll in or complete the equivalent of Math 2A Enroll in Physics 7LA beforePhysics 7A Note: Physics majors must enroll in the Physics majors-only section
