  1. Key Life Choice Independence or Dependence on God Genesis 11: 1-9: Galatians 2: 20-21

  2. The Challenge: Independence vs Dependence on God!

  3. Jurassic World:Fallen KingdomTrailer

  4. In movie “Jurassic World” Scientists remarkably re-create genetically-modified Dinosaurs who eventually become destructive to mankind

  5. When the destruction begins we hear the quote, “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they did not stop to think IF they should”

  6. “Jurassic World” reminds us of humanity’s historic quest of grappling with the thin line between creation and creator

  7. Within our history humanity has often taken on the mantle of God, living as life depends upon us, His creation, than upon Him, our Creator!

  8. Tower of Babel “Let Us Make a Name for Ourselves” Genesis 11: 1 - 9

  9. The Tower of Babel Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. 2 As people moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. 3 They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. 4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” .

  10. The Tower of Babel 5 But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. 6 The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” 8 So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. 9 That is why it was called Babel—because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. From there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

  11. Notice the Attitude? Relying on Technology and their Unity they began a Tower to make a name for Themselves!

  12. Like Jurassic World, they began to express a Belief they did not need God

  13. Even worse they express an attitude of complete human independence VS Dependence upon God

  14. Their Vision: “Build a city in order not to be dispersed”… “Make a name for themselves”

  15. They were seeking: — Security and — Recognition

  16. There are times We need to Confess we too are seeking security and recognition Apart from God

  17. Furthermore, there are times we say we affirm Jesus as our Lord but we need to Confess we sacrifice Faithfulness for our own Selfishness

  18. Jurassic World and the Tower of Babel should make us aware of the danger of Self-Reliance!

  19. As a new Christian convert we are painfully aware of our brokenness but the longer we walk as a Christian we can slowly allow self-reliance to creep in our lives

  20. Jesus shares these words: “For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Luke 14: 11
