  7. Experience level for each sport • MHS does not discourage any student from trying out for a team. But since some of our sports have cuts, it’s important to have realistic expectations during tryouts. • However, it’s important to realize experience is important in sports because many students have participated in their respective sport(s) for many years & have developed a strong skill set.

  8. Experience level for each sport • Freshmen – Build a foundation of fundamental skills integrated with team concepts used at the Varsity level. • JV – Focus on improving skill. Playing time will move to a more competitive process. Getting ready to contribute to the varsity team. • Varsity – Competition! Focused on winning the ‘right way’.

  9. Interested in trying out for a winter or spring sport at MHS? If you’re interested in a winter or spring sport, you do not have to submit any paperwork until next school year!

  10. Commitment • Practice and/or game every day Monday – Saturday (Sunday – possibly) • 3:00 – 5:00 time frame each day • MHS team- first commitment; other teams second • Academic/Behavior- monitored throughout the year (student first; athlete second) • Fundraising responsibilities (optional)

  11. Tryouts & Cuts • Some of the teams have cuts because of the large numbers • Numbers game...some good players will not make the team • Perseverance through cuts...some students get cut at the middle school and make the high school team • You may only tryout for 1 sport per season unless circumstances allow it...
