  1. Which is Better? The Law What do the scriptures say? The Gospel

  2. Hebrews 7:18-19 For on the one hand there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness, 19 for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.

  3. Given by Moses Given by Christ John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, 'He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.” 16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. 17For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. (John 1:15-17)

  4. Spoken by Prophets Spoken by Christ God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds. (Hebrews 1:1-2)

  5. To Jews Only To Every Creature And Moses called all Israel, and said to them: "Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your hearing today, that you may learn them and be careful to observe them. (Deuteronomy 5:1) And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 "He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. (Mark 16:15-16)

  6. To last until Christ Last to the End of the World Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. (Galatians 3:24-25) “Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. (Mark 16:15-16)

  7. Would Pass Away Abides Forever “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.” (Matthew 5:17) Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, 24 because “All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away, 25 But the word of the LORD endures forever.” Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you. (1 Peter 1:23-25)

  8. Changeable Priesthood Unchangeable Priesthood For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law. 13 For He of whom these things are spoken belongs to another tribe, from which no man has officiated at the altar. 14 For it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah, of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood. 15 And it is yet far more evident if, in the likeness of Melchizedek, there arises another priest 16 who has come, not according to the law of a fleshly commandment, but according to the power of an endless life. 17 For He testifies: "You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek." (Hebrews 7:12-17)

  9. Blood of Animals Blood of Christ For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. (Hebrews 10:4) How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? (Mark 16:15-16)

  10. No Forgiveness of Sins Sins Forgiven But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. (Hebrews 10:3) For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more. [under the New covenant] (Hebrews 8:12)

  11. High Priest on Earth High Priest Not on Earth For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. Therefore it is necessary that this One also have something to offer. 4For if He were on earth, He would not be a priest, since there are priests who offer the gifts according to the law; 5who serve the copy and shadow of the heavenly things, as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle. For He said, “See that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.” (Hebrews 8:3-5)

  12. Law was Good New Covenant is Better Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good. (Romans 7:12) But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises. (Hebrews 8:6)

  13. Imperfect Faultless For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. 8 Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.” (Hebrews 8:7-8)

  14. Children by Fleshly Birth Children by Spiritual Birth …God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law... (Galatians 4:4) Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” … 5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3,5)

  15. Jew Outwardly Jew Inwardly For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh; 29 but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God. (Romans 2:28-29)

  16. Conclusion Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage ... You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace. Galatians 5:1,4
