  1. UIAAA New Athletic Administrator Training Participation Times Throughout the Year Monday, September 21, 2009

  2. Participation throughout the year • 5 different times throughout the year 1. In season 2. 3 weeks prior to season 3. Dead time 4. Open time, out of season 5. Holiday Moratorium

  3. In Season • Duration: practice start date through conclusion of the state tournament. • From practice start date to competition start date: no competition, scrimmage or practice with other schools allowed. • Practice and games allowed within contest limitation.

  4. 3 weeks prior to season (other than Football) • No camps hosted or sponsored by UHSAA member schools. • Individuals may attend an individual camp as long as their coach does not coach them. • Weight lifting and conditioning are allowed. • Sport specific exercise allowed without instruction from coaching staff. • Open gym, court, pool, field is allowed without coaching. • Team selection may not take place. • No required attendance

  5. 3 weeks prior to season (cont.) • NO • Practice sessions • Drills • Review of video with athletes • Team offense • Team defense • Chalkboard X’s and O’s

  6. 3 Weeks prior to season (Football) • Week 1: no organized workouts; no pads; helmets only; conditioning and weight lifting only. • Weeks 2 & 3: no pads; helmets only; football specific workouts with equipment (not pads) are permissible. X’s and O’s and chalk talks permitted.

  7. Dead Time • Sport Specific (see Ready Reference Calendar) • Applies to all 9th-12th grade students • No sport related coach/player contact • Coach: • Paid or unpaid • Make up current, immediate past or projected future coaching staff

  8. Dead Time Restrictions • No coaching or observing by any coach or volunteer. Exception: may observe own child playing or when acting as a registered official assigned to that contest. • No organized practice at any level with any coach or volunteer. • No organized competition at any level with any coach or volunteer. • No meetings. Exceptions: individual exit interviews and post season banquets. • No Fundraisers • No open gym, court, pool, field, batting cages, etc.

  9. Open time, out of season • No team selection • No required or limited attendance • Football • Spring restrictions: end of dead time through Memorial Day • No organized team practices or intra-school scrimmages (includes 7 on 7 practice). • Specific position work and skill development with coach is OK with 3 or fewer individual students at a time. • No competitions or scrimmages with other schools. • No helmets or pads. • 5 consecutive days in pads between Memorial Day & July 20.

  10. Holiday Moratorium • No practices or contests • Facilities are to be closed • Travel not permitted on a moratorium day.

  11. 5 different times • 1. In season • 2. 3 weeks prior to season • 3. Dead time • 4. Open time, out of season for football two parts: Spring and Summer • 5. Holiday Moratorium
