  1. Our World has become dependant on Fossil based fuels and until there is a viable alternative found, we must maximise our reserves, and reduce the carbon footprint we are causing on our planet. With a rise in population and increased demands for Power and Transportation, there is a Global Climate Change which must be addressed now!

  2. Crude oil is predicted to surge to over US$200 a barrel by 2012. This will cause US fuel prices will climb to well over US$7 a gallon, and Australian fuel prices over AUD$3.50 a litre by 2012.

  3. An average driver uses around 19.5USgal or 74litres of fuel a week. The average weekly fuel bill is predicted to exceed US$136 in the USA and AUD$259 in Australia by the year 2012.

  4. Existing gasoline engines are only approximately 26-30% efficient. There needs to be a major change in engine design to improve this poor efficiency level, and high fuel usage.

  5. Revetec has been working on the solution. It’s here… and it’s proven! The Revetec engine transfers power from the piston to the flywheel more effectively providing increased fuel efficiency.

  6. We recently performed independent testing at the Orbital Australia test facility. The Revetec engine has achieved a best BSFC figure of 207g/(kW-h) or 39.5% efficiency in recent independent testing.

  7. Better fuel economy usually means less performance… At a recent test day of our X4v2 engine, we demonstrated the high torque/low revs characteristics of our latest engine.

  8. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY • REVETEC have optimised the least efficient aspect of the traditional ICE i.e. the bottom end of the internal combustion engine. • The crank shaft has been replaced by a patented mechanism that has effectively revolutionised engine efficiency. • The engine has been independently tested and verified by world leading engine testing facility ORBITAL for fuel efficiency. • The independent test verified that the prototype engine without any of the ‘gizmos’ of an optimised engine design has a BSFC of 207g/(kW-h). • KEY FEATURES • High torque characteristics; • Greater fuel efficiency; • Better driveability; • Compact in design; • Multiple configurations; • Easily manufactured.

  9. BACKGROUND • This Australian invention has been under development for over 10 years • It is not a radical engine design, it effectively has a revised bottom end (no crank shaft) in the form of a tri-lobe design http://www.revetec.com/development.htm • REVETEC were recently awarded a Federal Government Grant of $1 Million to develop the X4 engine. They developed a radial aviation engine as opposed to an automotive engine as the grant was specifically for aviation engine technology • The purpose of the testing was to prove the efficiency of the tri-lobe concept; the next phase of development is to develop an automotive engine version with an OEM

  10. BACKGROUND • Due to the inherent design of the tri-lobe architecture, the REVETEC engine is smaller & lighter compared to standard internal combustion engines • The X4 has been tested on a three wheel trike for driveability refer to link http://www.revetec.com/gallery_video.htm • The REVETEC engine is still in prototype phase, the next phase is commercialisation via the development of a specific engine for an OEM • Existing Internal Combustion Technology (ICE) is fundamentally inefficient because its key component, the crankshaft, delivers torque in a narrow band. • REVETEC’S technology widens the engine torque band and increases the efficiency over a wider RPM range.

  11. BACKGROUND • Unique Selling Points: • 30% energy savings; • 40% reduction in fuel consumption; • 40% reduction in emissions for any given fuel. • REVETEC engine can be used in engines using petrol, diesel, natural gas, methane, ethanol, CNG, LPG and JP8; • The engine can be used in Automotive, Light Aircraft, Marine and Generators etc; • Lower Manufacturing costs due to less and smaller components – the car industry operates on very low margins and the slightest cost saving will produce a marked advantage.

  12. Introducingthe newRevetec “X”Seriesengine.

  13. E3 + P Efficiency Economy Eco-friendliness Performance

  14. THE DNA OF THE REVETEC ENGINE EFFICIENCY • CCE technology optimisation • Packaging efficiency ECONOMY • Fuel economy • Cheaper cost to produce ECO-FRIENDLY PERFORMANCE • Carbon friendly • NO² etc friendly • Power & torque not compromised • Driver involvement, continuous torque increases driving experience

  15. Testing Results • The Revetec petrol engine has achieved a repeatable BSFC figure of 212g/kW-h (38.6% engine efficiency) with a best figure of 207g/kW-h (39.5%) • What is BSFC? It is the Holy Grail of engine efficiency, it is the true and trusted TEST for engine efficiency • A typical best value for BSFC for a Petrol engine is 270g/kW and that a Diesel engine has a BSFC of 200g/kW* • The REVETEC engine as tested by Orbital does not have a sophisticated top end, it does not feature VVT-i, Direct Injection or anything else; there is huge potential to improve the efficiency even further. • * INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE FUNDAMENTALS BY JOHN B HEYWORD

  16. HYBRID POTENTIAL • With its high levels of efficiency the REVETEC engine is ideally suited to form part of a HYBRID engine system • The Achilles Heel of most Hybrid systems is the inefficiency of the petrol/diesel engine. An OEM could effectively marry this technology with an existing electric motor system and develop a Hybrid platform that will redefine efficiency and drivability.

  17. SUMMARY • The REVETEC engine is: lighter, smaller and offers arguably class leading levels of engine efficiency; • In its prototype phase, without a sophisticated top end, the engine achieved just under 40% efficiency; • This engine technology has cross platform applicability via a host of engine platforms including: marine, aviation, pumps etc, the cost of commercialising the engine can be amortised across a broad range of products.

  18. SUMMARY • Given its early stages of development, an OEM has the opportunity to secure this REVETEC technology and develop independently; • Opportunity for an OEM to secure funds from the Australian Federal Government to develop this engine through the Green Fund Grant that is being offered; • Most importantly, this ingenuity has the potential to offer huge savings on fuel usage, reduce carbon footprint and provide a better future.
