  6. “The Office of Research Services (ORS) assists SFU faculty members in obtaining and administering financial support for their research. In undertaking its mission, ORS works closely with all units falling under the auspices of the VP Research as well as with Research Accounting and Faculty-based Research Grants Facilitators and Administrators. Applying for and holding research funding involves knowledge of both sponsoring agency and SFU policies. Mission: to assist SFU faculty in obtaining and administering financial support for their research via grants and contracts • Reviews and approves research funding applications on behalf of the University • Reviews, prepares, and negotiates research agreements, including research contracts, grants-in-aid, non-disclosure, material transfer, technology transfer, network, inter- institutional, and commercialization agreements ORS: Mission & Activities (1)

  8. • Represents the University to external funding sponsors • Liaises with sponsors to communicate funding opportunities, negotiate agreements, and follow up on existing grants & contracts • Works closely with SFU Research Accounting to ensure that use of funds is in compliance with University and sponsor regulations • Communicates research funding opportunities and deadlines to SFU faculty members • Posts information to 3 mail lists: nserc-list@sfu.ca; cihr-list@sfu.ca; sshrc-list@sfu.ca • Authorizes set-up of research grant accounts for funded projects for which all conditions of funding have been met • Biosafety, animal care and ethics approvals, clarification of grant terms with the sponsor, submission of any additional documentation ORS: Mission & Activities (2)

  9. • Maintains a comprehensive, informative website www.sfu.ca/ors/ • Provides links to databases, SFU Research Policies and Procedures, informative articles, internal grant program descriptions, and external funding sponsors’ websites • Maintains Grant Track database of research applications, grants and awards • Tracks research funding applications and awards and produce statistical reports for ORS and Research Accounting ORS: Mission & Activities (3)

ORS routinely sends funding opportunity information, updates from the funding agencies, information regarding forthcoming events (i.e. workshops, seminars, etc.), etc. The 3 mailing lists are called: nserc-list; sshrc-list; cihr-list To join/resign from an email list: www.sfu.ca > SFU Online > My SFU > Account Management > Manager Your Mail Lists How is Funding information shared?
