  2. Encounters Increase in Spring • During spring and summer wildlife encounters increase – including mountain lions, rattlesnakes, deer, raccoons, turkeys • Recently construction personnel discovered a rattlesnake and a raccoon

  3. Mountain Lions • Report sighting to Security, x6999 • Do not hike alone • Keep children close to you • Most mountain lions will try to avoid a confrontation. Give them a way to escape. • Do not run away • Do not crouch down or bend over • Do all you can to appear large and noisy • Fight back if attacked – rocks, sticks, whatever you can find

  4. Rattlesnakes • Call security (x6999) if there is a problem • Do not approach • Look carefully • Never corner the snake • If close, calmly back away

  5. Raccoons & Deer • Do not approach • Call security (x6999) if there is a problem • Deer can dart into traffic • Watch for one or two fawns with doe

  6. Wild Turkeys • Do not feed them • Aggressive behavior tends to happen during the breeding season (spring) • Males have both talons and spurs • If attacked • Get inside car or building • Use umbrella to scare them off • Keep bicycle between you and them • Act dominant & do not turn your back to them • Call Security (x6999) if you need help
