  2. My Bio... Dear Parents and Friends of Lamar, Welcome to 1- B! ….It is going to be a great year, we have lots of learning to do in First Grade! Although I didn’t go to Lamar, I feel like it is part of my childhood, because I went to Vilas School in Sunset Heights, just one neighborhood over! I come from a family of 8, and back in the 70s, Lamar started to share its campus with Vilas, so I have a brother, a sister and nieces and nephews who came to Lamar! I went to El Paso High School where I was on the Track and Field and Cross Country teams, I was also on the Future Teachers of America club. After EPHS I went to U.T. El Paso (UTEP) where I got my Bachelor’s Degree in 1982; I started teaching and continued attending UTEP where I became a Bilingual teacher and then I received my Master’s Degree from UTEP in 1988. I started my public school teaching career in 3rd grade with the Ysleta school district, then in 1997 I moved over to this side of town, so I started teaching first grade at Putnam Elementary. In 2004 I became a Lamar Longhorn!

  3. My Bio...cont. My wife, Carmen Villalva is a 2nd grade teacher at North Loop Elementary school. Together we have 2 children. Their names are KIMBERLY and AARON. KIMBERLY just graduated this year from Coronado High School, she is now attending New Mexico State University. AARON is a sophomore at Coronado High School and he plays the guitar in his free time!

  4. My Favorite Things! • Family Time • Sports on TV: March Madness, Dallas Cowboy Football! • Sports in El Paso: UTEP Football, Basketball • Hobbies: Weightlifting, • Swimming, camping, • helping my kids!

  5. My Favorite Teacher • When I was a Junior at El Paso High School, I had a great teacher of Microbiology. His name was Mr. Wafford. It was because of him that I learned to see scientific inquiry in all parts of my world. Mr. Wafford inspired me to study and work hard because I saw him as an expert in his field. I wanted to be as knowledgeable as he was in everything I did! • At EPHS I learned that the world of Science would always be changing and fascinating; so Biology became my “teaching field.”

  6. Don’t forget to visit our classroom during Open House, on Conference Nights and whenever we have special projects for you! At EPISD we believe in “Nothing Less Than Success”…. It all begins in First Grade!
