  1. Perfecting the laser using the quantum properties of light Hans-A. Bachor Director, ARC (Australian Research Council ) Centre of Excellence for Quantum Atom Optics, Australian National University, Australian Introduction to Speaker Prof. Hans-Albert Bachor received his diploma and doctorate in Physics from the University of Hannover, Germany. He was attracted to Australian in 1981 by the Australian National University where he has been teaching Physics at all levels with great enthusiasm and success. He established a widely known group for optics and explores the possibilities of harnessing the quantum nature of light. He worked and taught many times in the USA, Germany, Denmark and France. He holds many academic awards and distinction, including the Humboldt Research Prize, Fellow of the Institute of Physics (UK) and is recipient of the Walter Boas medal from the Australian Institute of Physics. He has published a book and more than 140 papers in international research journals. Currently, he is the director of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Quantum-Atom Optics, a national centre to study atoms and light at the quantum level and to explore for future quantum technologies. Abstract Lasers are one of the great technological innovations. They have many applications in modern live and created a large industry. The invention of the laser was based on fundamental physics research about one hundred years ago. Pure theory turned into applied science and many ideas for precision measurements could be realized. The concept of photon is central and we are now in a position to reach the quantum limits of lasers. Quantum noise in now a limitation of many modern  optical devices. We can get around the quantum noise limit with clever tricks such as squeezed light and we can generate even more complex types of light using entanglement. This talk will discuss some of the latest results in quantum optics and precision measurements with light. 时间: 10月 13日 (周一) 18:30-20:00地点: 逸夫第二报告厅 主要面向:本科生和研究生欢 迎 参 加! 联系人:同宁华 联系电话:82502344
