  1. DESY assembly infrastructure for XFEL BQU preparation Marco Schalwat TTC Topical Workshop on SRF Cryomodule Clean Room Assembly CEA Saclay, 12th november 2014

  2. Outline • Overview on components • Overview assembly steps and devices • Shipment procedures • Quality control • Conclusion

  3. Overview on components Quadrupole BQU complete Beam-position monitor CEA (BPM_R) Beam-position monitor DESY (BPM_C) Gate valve with vaccum measuring device

  4. Overview on assembly steps and needed devices First day: - Assembly of connection quadrupole and beam-position monitor (BPM) - 6x high pressure rinsing (about 5 hours with 100 bar ultra pure water) - drying in class ISO 4 Second day: - assembly of elbow valve to quadrupole - assembly of UHV Feedthrough to BPM - install vacuum / RGA Third day: - leak check - assembly of connection bpm to gate valve - install vacuum / RGA Fourth day - final leak check of completed BQU unit - prepare packaging in ISO 4 and shipment

  5. transport procedures Transportation of the BQU (incl. Transport frame 450kg) from DESY Hamburg to CEA Saclay

  6. Quality control • All components are handed over for assembly under ISO 4 conditions „ready for assembly“ Particulates • Up to BQU 10 a cross check of particles was done on each component • From BQU 11, a particle check before closing the Qpole Unit was performed check with particle counter 2 minutes, max concentration allowed 10 (0,3 µm)/min qft Vacuum • RGA and leak check after each assembly step • Integral leak check after finishing the Qpole Unit At CEA • Vacuum check after transportation with vacuum diagnostic unit

  7. Conclusion • For the XFEL project a weekly delivery of Beamposition – Quadrupol - Units is requested and done at DESY Status • 36 units are produced up to now • 27 units are shipped to CEA Saclay under ISO 4 conditions (cleanroom to cleanroom hand out) • Up to now only one unit was rejected • Unexpected with vacuum degradation during storage of BQU was observed and investigated • A weekly hand out is established

  8. Thank you ! Thanks to all colleagues for their support.
