Immanuel Christian AcademyOur History • The Lutheran Church, beginning with Martin Luther, has over 400 years of opening, maintaining, and nurturing parochial education. • Immanuel Lutheran Church had a Lutheran school in the 50’s and 60’s. Christ Care Learning Center was opened in 1977, and now is a part of ICA.

  2. Immanuel Christian AcademyOur History • August 2002 ICA Opened • May 2003 ICA Accredited, the earliest that a Lutheran school can achieve national accreditation. • November 2007 ICA/Church Staff/Parents begin researching opening a high school.

  3. Immanuel Christian AcademyOur History • September 2008 Presentation of research and recommendations in nine areas are presented to ICA Board of Trustees. Trustees approve going to congregation • November 2008 Presentation of research and recommendations made at congregational meeting. Congregation approves moving ahead unanimously. • Ongoing Planning/marketing/fundraising continues; enrollment opens.

During the high school years, students will learn to analyze, synthesize and evaluate information for their future decisions. Whom do you want training them in these areas?

Immanuel Christian AcademyOur Vision Proposed 9th Grade Curriculum—7 periods per day • English/Language Arts—Pre AP 2 credits • Social Studies (OK History/U.S. Govt.) 2 credits • Science (Biology) 2 credits • Mathematics (Algebra I/Geometry) 2 credits • Religion 2 credits • Electives 4 credits Latin/Spanish Band/Vocal Music Technology/Yearbook Speech/Drama Art P.E. Teacher introductions and short course descriptions

  10. Immanuel Christian AcademyOur Vision Online Curriculum—Orange County Lutheran High School • 11 years of providing online, accredited curriculum for small schools • $320 per semester for specialized courses, if needed • ICA will try to provide time in daily schedule for online courses

  11. Immanuel Christian AcademyOur Vision Facility • If class is up to 15, use existing areas: Annex, Multipurpose Room, Luther Hall • Larger class—lease modular classroom • Board will set parameters for future capital building campaign, and is discussing it now

  12. Immanuel Christian AcademyOur Vision Marketing • 10,000 mail-outs • Extras to churches and businesses • Two radio stations—KXOJ and Spirit 103 • Camp Bandage • New Sign • Incentives to churches approved by the Board • $1000 by May 1, 2009, gives discount to members

  13. Immanuel Christian AcademyOur Vision Resources • Renweb interactive student data website • Wireless technology expansion • SmartBoard expansion • NSU science labs rental • Bus purchase • Updating of outside facilities

Immanuel Christian AcademyOur Vision Budget • Finance committee budget approved by Board • Deficit cost campaign now over $215,000 • Thrivent Grant for $50,000-$100,000 being written • Endowment for scholarships is being started • Tuition for returning current 8th graders will stay at 2009-10 • 8th grade level--$5032 or $4410—may be continued • Discount rate for participating churches approved

  15. Immanuel Christian AcademyOur Vision Personnel • Current personnel will probably teach some 9th courses • Further AP training this summer • Additional personnel needs put into budget • All elective people can teach high school level • Added clerical, administration, counseling in budget

  16. Immanuel Christian AcademyOur Vision Extra Curricular • Sports dependent on enrollment/interest • Will pursue various league options • National Honor Society • Robotics Team • Chess Team • Academic Team • Intentional Leadership/Service requirements
