How do we get there? • I’m not asking you to do cartwheels because of ecstatic joy, but I am asking you to allow yourself to be CURIOUS! • What is a Constitution? • Why was there a need for one? • How was it created? • How did they know what to include? • Why is it such an important foundational document?

  4. Our Path…. • 1. Philosophers • 2. Historical documents • 3. Declaration of Independence • 4. Articles of Confederation • 5. Constitutional Convention • How did the above lead us to a Constitution? • What sort of impact did they have on the content in the Constitution?

  5. Philosophers • Around long before our Founding Fathers started their work. • Locke • Montesquieu • Voltaire • Rousseau • Our Founding Fathers begged, borrowed, and stole ideas for our form of government

  6. Assignment for the philosophers: • 1. Reading Packet • It is yours. These are your notes, so highlight, underline, annotate • How do the philosophers outline how a government should work? • How do the philosophers outline people’s role in the government? • What did our Founding Fathers learn/take from each philosopher? • ***Ultimate Goal: find/recognize their work in our government • 2. After you finish reading/annotating the packet, pick up philosopher worksheet from me. Turn into the bucket when it is complete. • **This is independent work. You need to stay in your seat and work independently.

  7. Last reminders for essay test • To be done IN class without the use of notes. • You have the entire period, if you need it. • I will provide you with paper and another rubric. • **Reflection piece is dealing with reform. We need reform, or a fix, because we have an issue with 11-12 million people here undocumented. What will happen to them? • 1. I support/do not support immigration, and here is my specific, detailed plan of how I would deal with the issue of undocumented immigrants AND, at the same time, make sure we are keeping the US safe.
