  3. Message from the President July 2004 Aloha Fellow Members: The 2003-2004 year has come and gone. It is time for me to say aloha to all, at least as president of this association. I would like to thank everyone, especially the board members, for their support of the association during the 2003-2004 year. Without you, the members, we would not have had a successful term. During the year, we had speakers who covered a myriad of topics at our monthly luncheons; we completed the revision of HAIW’s Bylaws and Standing Rules, the Corporate Partner program (we have four corporate partners) and ended the year with a surplus in our budget. • I would like to send out a challenge to every member to do the following: • Speak about HAIW/NAIW to those you know in the insurance industry or other companies who • do business with insurance companies. • Visit the HAIW website for updates on any events, educational classes and seminars • Attend at least one HAIW event (especially those who have been absent for a year or two) and find • out what is new with HAIW/NAIW • Volunteer in at least one event/project sponsored or co-sponsored by HAIW. • Invite your manager/executive to one of our meetings • Sign up for one of the HAIW sponsored seminars/classes. • Tracy Adams, the current president, and her board will continue with moving the association to the next level with her plans for offering the members something “of value” at every meeting/event she has planned for the year. Please support her and the board. Check out the www.haiw.org website for upcoming events and I will see you at the next HAIW meeting or event. • This is your association of choice! Get involved and energize the spirit of HAIW! • In fellowship, • Marina Diaz • President 2003-2004

  8. What is the NAIW Education Foundation? The NAIW Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization, established in 1993 by the National Association of Insurance Women (International). A volunteer Board of Directors composed of NAIW members and other industry leaders governs the Foundation. Its funding comes from individual, non-profit industry groups, foundations, corporation, and other industry-related businesses. Since 1993, more than $250,000 has been awarded in College and Professional scholarships. • College Scholarships: offered to students majoring or minoring in Insurance, Risk Management, or Actuarial Science, awarded annually in June. • Professional Scholarship: awarded 3 times each year, in October, February and June. The number of scholarship applicants has grown substantially over the past nine years. Our scholars do not have to be NAIW members and can be male or female. Our professional scholars do not need to be currently employed. Professional scholars can pursue courses, designations or degrees. This helps unemployed insurance industry professionals retrain themselves to fill available positions, including at your company. Applications can be obtained from the NAIW Education Foundation website at http://www.naiw-foundation.org/
