A standard is not required unless it is adopted through US DOT rulemaking • Rulemaking is an option but not the US DOT’s preferred way of getting standards into ITS deployments --rather, quality standards combined with technical assistance • If rulemaking takes place, likely the standard would have already been considered the de facto standard National ITS Architecture and ITS Standards
