Friends, BF/GF etc. • What form do the conflicts typically take (behaviors)? • How could these conflicts be avoided? • What are the main sources of conflict amongst teens in general?

  9. Resolving Conflicts • Step 1 – Be a good Listener (let the other person speak –relax) many conflicts are just misunderstandings/lack of communication • Step 2 – Say what’s on your mind. (use I statements- 3 parts = I feel_____ When_____ Because_______) speak clear and calm – be polite but direct on how you feel. • Step 3 – Look for the Win-Win. Compromise. How much of these things you are arguing about is really that important to you? • Step 4 – if conflict gets worse – stop, GET OUT, Visit it later.

Activity • "How many of you have ever had a big argument or fight with a friend, or at least someone you knew pretty well?" • Ask students why they think that they fought rather than settled a conflict peacefully. • Create a skit with your group using the topic on the card selected. Utilize Conflict Resolution Skills that would promote a realistic, positive and non-violent resolution for both parties.
