  3. 4th EU-Japan Symposium “New Generation Networks and Future Internet” 19th January 2012, Tokyo, Japan • In 2008 DG INFSO and NICT/MIC jointly held the 1st EU-Japan Symposium on this topic in an effort to step up the collaborations research activities between the EU and Japan. The 2nd and the 3rd symposium were held in 2009 and 2010 respectively • In the 3rd symposium, over 20 joint research subjects were proposed and it was agreed that NICT/MIC and DG INFSO would work towards the definition of joint call for a R&D program involving also R&D over test-beds • The 4th symposium focused on 6 topics where joint research efforts will focus. Strategic research subjects in these areas were discussed with the focus to build future joint research. Several oral presentations (10 - 15 minutes each) were scheduled in each thematic session. Some discussions on practical issues were carried out during the workshop.
