  2. The clean air act was established after the Air Pollution Control Act of 1955 funded the surgeon general to research the impact of pollution on human health. These studies made the government more aware of the growing problems and health hazards of polluted air which led to the act. The Clean Air Act of 1953 Authorized the development of a national program that addressed environmental problems related to air pollution as well as research into techniques to minimize air pollution. However successful this may have been, it still did not address the large and growing problem of motor vehicle pollution, which was later included in the Acts amendments. • EPA (Environmental Protection agency) was responsible for regulation and enforcement.
