  2. CHRISTMAS WHAT IS IT ? Christmas is a Christian annualcommemoration of the birth of Jesus. Father Christmas brings gifts to the homes of good childrenon the night beforeChrismas, December 24th.

  3. WHEN IS IT ? On the night of the 24th of December, presents are distributed . On the morning of the 25th, the children open theirpresents and the rest of the dayisdevoted to thiscelebration, the birth of Jesus.

  4. WHERE IS IT CELEBRATED ? Christmas iscelebrated in most countries where the majority of population is Christian : Europe, America, Africa. In contrast Christmas is not celebratedofficially in Muslim countries.

  5. WHY ? In the Middle Ages, the Catholic Church decided to replace the pagan figures by St Nicolas then by the Father Christmas.

  6. HOW IS IT CELEBRATED ? Childrendecoratetheirhouseswithred and green, decoratetheirchristmastrees, writetheirletters to Father Christmas and listen to Christmas carols sung by choirs in front of theirhouses. Beforegoing to bed, theyhangstockingsat the foot of theirbeds and leave cakes and a glass of port under the tree for Father Christmas.

  8. BOXING DAY Boxing Day is the dayafter Christmas, the 26th of December and a public holliday. This day, the tradition is to distributepresents to the needy ( the poor ). It’smostlycelebrated in the UK, Canada, Australia, New-Zealand and the West Indies ( îles CaraÏbes ).
