  3. Definitions of ICT ICT is a diverse mixture of technology tools and resources to create, differentiate, store and manage information for communication. ICT can be defined as the use of hardware and software for efficient management of information. ICT refers to forms of technology that are used to transmit, store, create and share or exchange information. Note : Generally, all the definitions are never asked. Study the one you find the easiest to understand. E.g.: …of information for particular task. Information Communication Technology SSC

  9. Knowledge Society for ICT The term ‘Knowledge Society’ refers to a society where knowledge is the primary production resource. A society where people use and share knowledge for their well-being can be called a knowledge society. Education is of huge importance in the knowledge society- because innovation and development depend on the knowledge gained by education. Thus, using education, innovations can be made which contribute for the development of the society. Information Communication Technology SSC

  10. Knowledge Society for ICT How is ICT related to Knowledge Society? ICT is the enabler for both innovation and education. With ICT knowledge and information can be shared all over the world. Information Communication Technology SSC

  11. Scope of ICT in Education 1. WWW The World Wide Web is the largest source of information for students as well as teachers. One living in a village or rural areas can also access the latest information everyday. Information Communication Technology SSC

  12. Scope of ICT in Education 2. Television Television broadcast is one of the best way to educate using video clips. Example, the difficult experiments, advanced surgery for medical students can be viewed. Information Communication Technology SSC

  13. Scope of ICT in Education 3. Text references on the internet. The information about text books, etc. is available on the internet. (Similar to point 1-WWW) Information Communication Technology SSC

  14. Scope of ICT in Education 4. Audio Video CDs Audio cassettes, video tapes, CDs, etc. are available in the market for students of any standard. Information Communication Technology SSC

  15. Scope of ICT in Education 5. LCD Projectors LCD Projectors can be used for effective teaching for large number of students. Information Communication Technology SSC

  16. Scope of ICT in Education 6. Online Examinations Human mistakes in correction can be avoided by on-line examinations. Information Communication Technology SSC

Chapter 1 : Potential of ICT KEY CONCEPTS • Importance & Definitions of ICT • Introduction to Information Highway • Knowledge Society for ICT, Education and Development • ICT and changing role of educators to promote literacy • ICT and challenging skill • Transformative impact of ICT-changing stories Information Communication Technology SSC

  18. Changing Role of Educators to promote Literacy Ways in which educators will guide learners in ICT environment : 1. Learner- There is continuous progress in the field of Science and Technology. New hardware and software are developed. Learner must keep his knowledge up-to-date. 2. Planner- The maximum use and benefit of the computer is possible when proper planning and execution of it are strictly followed. 3. Teaching- Computer Aided Teaching (like TAT, Technology Aided Teaching at MT), is important. Every student should use software for effective learning. 4. Examiner- Examinations are a crucial part of education. Setting of question papers, unit tests, preparation of question banks, etc. can be done with the help of ICT. Information Communication Technology SSC

  19. Changes in traditional education system due to ICT CURRICULUM Before After Institutional design curriculum for prescribed course. Learner’s need based curriculum courses demanded by lecturers. Information Communication Technology SSC

  20. Changes in traditional education system due to ICT CONTENT Before After Fixed or stable content for specific period. Rapidly changing content. Information Communication Technology SSC

  21. Changes in traditional education system due to ICT Teaching-learning method Before After 1. Asynchronous teaching-learning process. 1. Teaching-learning process synchronization. 2. At home or work place. 2. In campus or classroom. 3. Modern age students. 3. Traditional student. 4. Electronic communication (Like one way, two way or multiple mode, etc.). 4. Face-to-face communication. 5. Detailed classroom teaching. 5. Decentralized leaning, e-learning, use of PPT on LCD. Information Communication Technology SSC

  22. Changes in traditional education system due to ICT CLASSROOM Before After Communication is oral, lecture method. Technology related classroom communication. E.g. CD ROM, internet and web related technology or multimedia presentation (what you’re using now), virtual teaching, Administration, Video conferencing. Information Communication Technology SSC

  23. Changes in traditional education system due to ICT ADMINISTRATION Before After Traditional methods are adopted for management. Management through camera, office and library. Transaction of management through ICT. Information Communication Technology SSC

  24. Changes in traditional education system due to ICT Evaluation Before After Traditional methods of evaluation written, oral, practical exam, incidental observation. Online evaluation, evaluation through software, data representation and presentation and online result. Information Communication Technology SSC

  26. ICT and Challenging skill requirements The use of ICT in education requires Basic, Advanced and Complex Communication Skills for creating presentations and other media or virtual content. E.g. You need skills to make this PowerPoint presentation. Hence, education system needs to develop and establish methods for teaching and evaluating at all levels of education. Basic Skills : Reading – because computer technology increases the rate of economic exchange. People need jobs and the use of abstract models because of computerization offers plenty of them. Computer studies includes mathematics and therefore has turned many people into the mathematics community. Advanced Skills : This includes expert thinking, the ability to solve and discuss problems that, unlike algebra, lack explicit rule-based solutions. Complex Communication Skill : Making effective use of collected information from sources available on the internet. E.g. Using pictures on the internet in PowerPoint Presentations. Learning e-based applications. Information Communication Technology SSC

  28. Transformative impact of ICT-changing stories • Dual shift system To avoid crowded classrooms, a school may adopt a dual-shift system without reducing the student’s actual study time. Information Communication Technology SSC

  29. Transformative impact of ICT-changing stories • Providing courses unoffered ICT can provide courses that small rural or urban cannot offer to their students because it is difficult for those institutions to recruit and retain specialized teachers, particularly for science and mathematics. Information Communication Technology SSC

  30. Transformative impact of ICT-changing stories • Radio, TV or Online Instruction Schools that do not need a full-time Physics or English teacher can use radio, TV, or online instruction, using already developed multimedia materials and sharing one “teacher” among several schools. Information Communication Technology SSC

  31. Transformative impact of ICT-changing stories • Expert person living far away can conduct lectures. Due to ICT an expert person who lives hundred of miles away can conduct the online courses. Information Communication Technology SSC

  32. Transformative impact of ICT-changing stories • Video Conferencing Video conferencing changes the way Government is working. Bringing experts, decision makers and citizens face to face who are spread across geographically. National Informatics Centre is providing video-conferencing services for Government organizations. Information Communication Technology SSC

  33. Transformative impact of ICT-changing stories for e.g.: • Video Conferencing Maharashtra State Centre Mumbai is well equipped for providing videoconferencing services at International, National and at district level through NICNET (National Informative Centre Network).
