  1. Using Story Creator Deana King

  2. Pros of Story Creator • FREE • All ages can use it • Appropriate for all content areas

  3. Introduction – Modeling

  4. Explaining the Procedures • When the students are seated, begin with a review discussion of what we do in the media center. Allow students to respond with various answers regarding procedures that are followed – behavior, checkout, etc.

  5. The Beginning • Tell students that they will help create a class book.  Each student will write a sentence about what happens “in the media center”. • Show students the iPad and the Story Creator app. Read a previously created story from Story Creator.

  6. Writing the narrative • Work with small groups of students. Ask each student to give one example of something that we do “in the media center”. Type the student’s sentence on the page and give credit to the author. (Example: We sit quietly. By: Jerome)

  7. Taking the photographs • After completing the narrative, ask students to decide what kind of photograph would be best to illustrate the sentence. The student can either be in the picture or take the picture. Allow the student to insert the picture on the page with their text.

  8. The Final Product • When all of the students have completed their page, read the entire book to the class. • Save the story and forward it to the teacher. • The teacher can then share the story with parents.

  9. All content areas • The students can use the Story Creator app in any content area. • This book was created by classes in the cafeteria during their lunch time.

  10. Any grade level • The sample is from a kindergarten student. The book is about insects.

  11. A Completed Book • This is a completed book created by a kindergarten student on insects.
